How and where to use guide
S/K-90 2400MM KEYSTONE CAVITY WALL LINTEL
Typical applications
This 2400mm lintel is commonly used in residential and light commercial cavity wall construction to support masonry above window and door openings. The 2400mm length makes it suitable for larger openings or where multiple smaller openings are spanned. It is designed specifically for cavity wall construction where both inner and outer leaves require support.
- Window and door openings in cavity walls
- Residential new build and renovation projects
- Light commercial masonry construction
- Openings up to approximately 2400mm span
Installation and positioning
The lintel must be installed level and bedded fully in mortar on both sides of the cavity wall. Ensure adequate bearing length on each side of the opening, typically a minimum of 150mm on each support. The lintel should be positioned to support both the outer and inner leaves of the cavity wall. Check that the lintel is properly aligned before the mortar sets, and ensure no gaps remain beneath it.
- Bed lintel fully in mortar on both cavity leaves
- Maintain minimum 150mm bearing on each side
- Install level using a spirit level
- Allow mortar to cure fully before loading
Limitations and site considerations
This lintel is designed for cavity wall construction only and should not be used in solid wall applications without appropriate specification. The 2400mm length is fixed and cannot be cut on site. Ensure the opening dimensions and wall construction are confirmed before ordering. The lintel must be protected from damage during handling and storage on site.
- Cavity wall construction only
- Fixed 2400mm length – not adjustable
- Requires proper bearing on both sides
- Protect from impact and weather during storage
Maintenance and durability
Once installed and the mortar has fully cured, the lintel requires no ongoing maintenance. Ensure that any cavity wall ties and insulation are installed correctly around the lintel to maintain the integrity of the cavity. Check that mortar joints around the lintel remain intact and repoint if necessary during routine wall maintenance.
- No active maintenance required after installation
- Inspect mortar joints periodically
- Ensure cavity ties are installed correctly
- Repoint mortar if joints deteriorate
