Fixing and buying guide

3.9Mtr x 32mm x 150mm (27x144) PAR Door Lining Premium Redwood

What you are buying

You are purchasing one length of PAR door lining timber measuring 3.9 metres long. The cross-section is 32mm thick by 150mm wide (nominal size 27mm x 144mm when planed). This single length is typically sufficient to frame one standard internal doorway, providing material for both vertical jambs and the horizontal head piece with minimal waste. The timber is premium grade redwood, pre-planed on all four sides to a smooth finish.

  • Length: 3.9 metres
  • Thickness: 32mm (planed from nominal 27mm)
  • Width: 150mm (planed from nominal 144mm)
  • Grade: Premium redwood
  • Finish: PAR (planed all round)
  • Quantity: 1 length

Compatibility and sizing

This lining is designed for internal doorways in standard UK construction. The 150mm width is typical for modern door frames and suits walls with standard stud depth and plasterboard finish. Check your existing door opening dimensions before ordering. The 3.9 metre length is calculated to cut two vertical jambs (typically 2 metres each for standard ceiling heights) plus one horizontal head piece, with a small allowance for joints and waste. If your ceiling height exceeds 2.1 metres or you require multiple doorways, order additional lengths.

  • Suitable for internal doorways in timber-frame and masonry construction
  • Width accommodates standard wall thickness with plasterboard
  • Length provides material for one complete door frame
  • Check opening height and width before purchase

Pre-installation checks

Inspect the timber on delivery for damage, twisting, or cupping. Store the lining flat in a dry location for at least 48 hours before installation to allow moisture content to stabilise with the building environment. This reduces movement after fixing. Check that your door opening is square and plumb using a spirit level; out-of-square openings may require shimming or selective planing. Ensure the wall surface is clean and free from debris where the lining will be fixed.

  • Check for visible damage or warping on delivery
  • Store flat and dry for 48 hours before use
  • Verify opening is square and plumb
  • Clean wall surfaces before fixing

Fixing and installation

Door lining is typically fixed to the wall structure using nails, screws, or adhesive, depending on wall type and site practice. The 32mm thickness provides adequate material for secure fixing without splitting. Use appropriate fixings for your wall construction: masonry nails or screws for solid walls, or timber fixings where studs are accessible. Ensure the frame is square and level as you fix, using shims to adjust for out-of-plumb walls. Once fixed, the lining provides the finished edge for plasterboard and the mounting surface for door hardware.

  • Fix with nails, screws, or adhesive suitable for your wall type
  • Check level and plumb continuously during installation
  • Use shims to adjust for uneven walls
  • Ensure frame is square before final fixing
