S/K-90 2700MM KEYSTONE CAVITY WALL LINTEL

Typical applications

This 2700mm lintel is used to support masonry above window and door openings in cavity wall construction. The 90mm depth makes it suitable for standard cavity wall thicknesses. It is commonly used in domestic and light commercial buildings where the span and loading conditions fall within the lintel's capacity. Always check structural drawings and specifications to confirm this lintel is appropriate for your specific opening width and imposed loads before ordering.

  • Window and door openings in cavity walls
  • New build residential and light commercial projects
  • Renovation and extension work with cavity wall construction
  • Openings up to 2700mm span

Installation and positioning

The lintel must be installed level and bedded firmly in a full bed of mortar on both supporting walls. Ensure the bearing length on each side is adequate — typically a minimum of 150mm on each support is recommended, though always refer to structural specifications. The lintel should be positioned at the correct height above the opening as shown on the building plans. Support the lintel temporarily during installation until the mortar has fully cured and the masonry above has been built up sufficiently to lock it in place. Ensure cavity wall ties are installed correctly around the lintel to maintain cavity integrity.

  • Bed lintel fully in mortar on both supporting walls
  • Maintain minimum 150mm bearing on each side
  • Install level using a spirit level
  • Provide temporary support until mortar cures
  • Install cavity wall ties around lintel opening

Limitations and site considerations

This lintel has a fixed 2700mm length and cannot be cut or modified on site. Confirm the opening width matches this span before delivery. The lintel is designed for cavity wall construction only and is not suitable for solid wall or other wall types. Do not use if structural calculations indicate loads exceed the lintel's capacity. Protect the lintel from damage during handling and storage — avoid dropping or bending. Check that the lintel is not damaged or bent before installation; reject any defective units.

  • Cavity wall construction only
  • Confirm opening width matches lintel span
  • Protect from damage during handling and storage
  • Inspect for defects before installation

Maintenance and durability

Steel lintels require protection from corrosion. Ensure the lintel is fully bedded in mortar and that the cavity is kept clear of debris and moisture. The mortar bed protects the steel from direct water exposure. In exposed locations or where the lintel may be subject to damp conditions, ensure adequate ventilation and drainage of the cavity. Once installed and the masonry is complete, the lintel requires no further maintenance beyond normal building upkeep. Do not allow water to pool on or around the lintel during construction.

  • Bed fully in mortar for corrosion protection
  • Keep cavity clear of debris and excess moisture
  • Ensure adequate cavity ventilation and drainage
  • Avoid water pooling during construction
  • No ongoing maintenance required once installed
