S/K1501800 KEYSTONE S/K-150 X 1800mm Standard Cavity Wall Lintel

Typical applications

This standard cavity lintel is commonly used in residential and light commercial cavity wall construction to support masonry above window and door openings. The 1800mm length makes it suitable for larger openings or where extended span is required. It is designed specifically for cavity wall systems where the lintel must bridge the cavity and support both inner and outer leaves of masonry.

  • Window and door openings in cavity wall construction
  • Residential new build and renovation projects
  • Light commercial applications with cavity walls
  • Openings up to approximately 1800mm span

Installation and positioning

The lintel must be installed level and bedded firmly in a full bed of mortar on both supporting walls. Ensure adequate bearing length on each side of the opening, typically a minimum of 150mm on each support. The lintel should be positioned to support both the inner and outer leaves of the cavity wall, with the cavity maintained across the full width of the lintel. Use a spirit level to check for level installation before the mortar sets, and allow adequate curing time before applying load.

  • Bed lintel firmly in full mortar bed on both supports
  • Maintain minimum 150mm bearing on each side of opening
  • Check level before mortar cures
  • Maintain cavity width across lintel
  • Allow mortar to cure fully before loading

On-site handling and storage

Steel lintels should be stored on level ground or on suitable supports to prevent distortion. Protect from weather and corrosion during storage and on site. Handle carefully to avoid damage to the product. Check the lintel for any damage or defects before installation, and ensure it is not bent or twisted. Keep the product dry until installation to prevent rust development.

  • Store on level ground or proper supports
  • Protect from weather and moisture
  • Inspect for damage before installation
  • Handle carefully to avoid bending or distortion
  • Keep dry to prevent corrosion

Limitations and maintenance

This standard cavity lintel is designed for typical domestic and light commercial cavity wall loads. Do not use for applications exceeding the design load capacity or for spans greater than the lintel length. The lintel itself requires no maintenance once installed, but ensure surrounding mortar joints remain in good condition to prevent water ingress. Monitor for any signs of cracking or movement in the masonry above the lintel, which may indicate inadequate support or overloading.

  • Not suitable for spans exceeding 1800mm
  • Do not exceed design load capacity
  • Maintain surrounding mortar joints
  • Monitor for cracking or movement in masonry above
  • Consult structural engineer for non-standard applications
