S/K-90 1200MM KEYSTONE CAVITY WALL LINTEL
What this lintel is for
This lintel is engineered to carry the load of masonry above window and door openings in cavity wall construction. The 1200mm span makes it suitable for standard domestic openings up to approximately 1200mm wide. It bridges the cavity and distributes loads evenly across both leaves of the wall, preventing structural failure and cracking around the opening.
- Designed for cavity wall construction only
- Suitable for domestic and light commercial buildings
- Carries masonry loads above windows, doors, and similar openings
- 1200mm clear span capacity
Choosing the right size and checking compatibility
The 1200mm dimension refers to the clear span across the opening. Measure the internal width of your opening carefully, then add approximately 150mm minimum bearing length on each side (check local building regulations and your structural engineer's specification). The S/K-90 designation indicates the lintel profile and load rating. Confirm with your structural engineer or architect that this lintel meets the loading requirements for your specific wall height and opening location. Check that your cavity width is compatible with the lintel depth.
- Measure opening width and add bearing lengths to determine total lintel length needed
- Verify lintel profile (S/K-90) matches your structural specification
- Confirm cavity width accommodates the lintel
- Check building regulations compliance for your region
Installation and preparation
The lintel must be installed level and fully supported on both sides before any masonry is built above it. Ensure adequate bearing length (typically 150mm minimum each end) on solid masonry or supporting walls. The lintel should be positioned at the correct height relative to the opening and the cavity. Allow for any damp-proof course requirements and ensure the lintel does not bridge the cavity in a way that would create a thermal or moisture bridge without appropriate detailing.
- Install level with minimum 150mm bearing on each side
- Position at correct height before building masonry above
- Ensure full contact with supporting surfaces
- Integrate with damp-proof course and cavity tray detailing as per specification
What you receive and storage
You will receive one steel lintel of 1200mm span. Store the lintel horizontally on level ground or on suitable supports to prevent distortion. Protect from weather and corrosion during storage. Handle carefully to avoid damage to any protective coating. Check on delivery that the lintel is not bent or damaged before installation.
- Inspect on delivery for damage or distortion
- Store horizontally on level, dry ground
- Keep protected from weather and moisture
- Handle with care to preserve protective finish
