How and where to use guide
KEYSTONE S/K-110 - 3600mm Standard Load Cavity Lintel
Typical applications
This lintel is suitable for standard domestic cavity wall openings including windows, external doors, and small internal openings in houses and bungalows. It works well in single-storey construction and as upper-floor lintels in two-storey properties where loads remain moderate. The 3600mm length accommodates openings up to approximately 3.5 metres, making it ideal for large window or patio door installations in standard residential builds.
- Window openings in cavity walls
- External door openings
- Light commercial single-storey construction
- Upper-floor openings in domestic properties
- Openings up to approximately 3.5 metres wide
Installation and positioning
Install the lintel horizontally across the full cavity width, ensuring both the outer and inner leaves bear equally on the supporting masonry. The 100mm height should sit flush with the course height of your brickwork or blockwork. Support must be provided at both ends with a minimum bearing of 150mm on each side of the opening. Position the lintel before building up the masonry above the opening, and ensure it is level before proceeding with further courses. The dual-leaf design means the outer leaf (102mm) and inner leaf (100mm) work together to bridge the cavity.
- Minimum 150mm bearing on each side of opening
- Install level across full cavity width
- Ensure both leaves sit on supporting masonry
- Position before building courses above opening
- Check level before continuing brickwork
Load limits and structural considerations
This lintel has a total uniformly distributed load capacity of 16 kN, which is appropriate for standard domestic applications. Do not use this lintel for heavily loaded openings, concentrated point loads, or where structural calculations indicate higher loads are required. If your opening exceeds 3600mm or if loads exceed the 16 kN rating, consult structural calculations and select a heavier-duty lintel. Always verify that your specific building design and opening dimensions fall within the lintel's capacity before installation.
- Maximum UDL capacity: 16 kN
- Suitable for standard domestic loads only
- Not suitable for concentrated heavy loads
- Verify opening width does not exceed 3600mm
- Consult structural engineer if loads are uncertain
On-site handling and maintenance
Handle the lintel carefully during delivery and storage to avoid damage to the bearing surfaces. Store on level ground with adequate support to prevent sagging. Before installation, inspect for any cracks, corrosion, or damage. Once installed, the lintel requires no routine maintenance, but ensure that mortar joints are properly filled and that any cavity trays or damp-proof membranes are correctly positioned to prevent water ingress. Check periodically that the masonry above remains stable and that no cracks develop around the opening.
- Store on level, well-supported ground
- Inspect for damage before installation
- Ensure mortar joints are fully filled
- Position cavity trays correctly to prevent damp
- Monitor for cracks around opening after completion
