How and where to use guide

PREMDOR 6 PANEL MOULDED SMOOTH FD30 FIRESHIELD 762MM X 1981MM X 44MM

Typical applications and where to install

This door is designed for internal use in residential and light commercial properties. Install it in hallways, landings, and communal areas where fire safety regulations require FD30-rated doors. It is commonly used in flats, apartments, care homes, and multi-occupancy buildings to protect escape routes. The 762mm width suits standard doorways; measure your opening carefully before ordering. Do not use this door externally or in areas exposed to moisture, as it is designed for dry internal environments only.

  • Escape routes and hallways in residential buildings
  • Communal areas in flats and apartments
  • Landings and stairwell access doors
  • Light commercial properties requiring fire compliance
  • Internal openings where FD30 rating is mandatory

Installation and on-site finishing

The door arrives with a white base coat applied, ready for final decoration. Before hanging, inspect the door for damage and ensure your frame is square and level. Hang the door using three hinges (not supplied) positioned at 150mm from top and bottom, with the third hinge centred. Once hung, sand the smooth moulded surface lightly with fine-grit sandpaper to key the base coat, then apply your chosen paint or stain. Allow adequate drying time between coats. Fit the door furniture (handles, locks, and closers) after painting is complete. Ensure the door closes properly and does not bind on the frame.

  • Check frame is square and level before installation
  • Use three hinges; position at 150mm from top and bottom
  • Sand base coat lightly with fine-grit paper before painting
  • Apply paint or stain on-site to your specification
  • Install door furniture after finishing is complete
  • Test door closure and adjust hinges if binding occurs

Fire safety and compliance

This door carries an FD30 fireshield rating, meaning it provides 30 minutes of fire resistance when properly installed and closed. To maintain this rating, the door must be hung in a suitable fire-rated frame with appropriate seals and closers fitted. Do not drill additional holes or make modifications that compromise the door's integrity. Ensure the door closes fully and any fire seals are in good condition. Building control may require certification; retain documentation of the door's rating and installation. This rating applies only when the door is closed; it does not provide protection if left open.

  • FD30 rating requires proper frame installation and fire seals
  • Door must close fully to maintain fire safety performance
  • Do not drill holes or modify the door structure
  • Fit appropriate closers to ensure the door closes automatically
  • Keep certification and installation records for building control

Maintenance and care

The smooth moulded surface is durable and easy to clean. Wipe down with a damp cloth and mild detergent as needed. Avoid excessive moisture and do not use the door in damp or wet environments. Check hinges and door furniture periodically for tightness and adjust if necessary. If the painted finish becomes scuffed or damaged, touch up with matching paint. The door is designed for internal use only; do not expose it to direct sunlight for extended periods, as this may cause the finish to fade. Store unused doors flat in a dry location.

  • Clean with damp cloth and mild detergent only
  • Keep away from moisture and damp environments
  • Check hinges and furniture regularly for tightness
  • Touch up paint damage with matching finish
  • Protect from prolonged direct sunlight to prevent fading
  • Store flat in dry conditions if not installed immediately
