How and where to use guide

A400708-ST-B Ulti-mate II Professional Woodscrew PoziSquare Double Csk Z & Y 4mm X 70mm - (8g) - 200 Box

Typical Applications

These screws are ideal for general woodworking, timber-to-timber joinery, and structural applications where a strong, flush finish is required. The double countersunk head automatically seats flush with the timber surface, eliminating the need for pre-countersinking in most softwoods. They perform particularly well in cabinet making, door frame assembly, and general carpentry where appearance and holding strength are both important. The 4mm gauge and 70mm length suit joining timber sections of 35-50mm thickness.

  • Timber-to-timber joinery and frame assembly
  • Cabinet and furniture construction
  • Door and window frame installation
  • Structural timber connections
  • Applications requiring flush, countersunk finishes

Driving and Installation

The PoziSquare recess accepts both PH (Phillips) and PZ (Pozidriv) drivers, offering flexibility on site. The quick start point allows rapid initial penetration with minimal force, reducing operator fatigue and improving productivity. Use a correctly sized driver to ensure full engagement with the recess and prevent camout. The slotted shank design reduces splitting in timber, particularly important when driving near edges or in denser hardwoods. For best results, drive at a steady speed without excessive pressure once the screw has started.

  • Use PH or PZ driver matched to screw size for full recess engagement
  • Allow quick start point to locate and penetrate timber naturally
  • Maintain steady driving speed without forcing
  • The reinforced head resists breakage under normal driving loads
  • Slotted shank minimises splitting in hardwoods and near timber edges

Corrosion Resistance and Maintenance

The zinc yellow plating provides reliable corrosion protection suitable for most interior and exterior timber applications. For maximum durability in exposed or damp conditions, ensure timber is properly sealed or treated. The plating will not require additional maintenance during normal use. If screws are stored on damp sites, keep them in dry conditions to preserve the protective coating.

  • Zinc yellow plating resists corrosion in typical UK weather conditions
  • Suitable for both interior and exterior timber applications
  • Store in dry conditions to maintain coating integrity

On-Site Tips and Limitations

Pre-drilling is not essential in softwoods but is recommended in hardwoods or near timber edges to prevent splitting. The absence of ribs on these smaller sizes makes them particularly suitable for use with hinges, latches, and other metal fittings where a clean, unobstructed fit is needed. Do not use in masonry, concrete, or metal without appropriate anchors. These screws are designed for timber only. Avoid over-tightening, which can strip the timber or shear the screw head.

  • Pre-drill in hardwoods and near timber edges
  • Ideal for hinge and fitting installation due to rib-free design
  • Timber-only fastener; not suitable for masonry or metal
  • Do not over-tighten; stop when head seats flush
  • Box of 200 provides good value for larger projects
