Thistle Bonding Coat 25Kg Per Bag

What this product is for

Thistle Bonding Coat is a base coat plaster for internal walls and ceilings. It is specifically formulated for application to surfaces with low suction or smooth finishes where standard plasters may not adhere effectively. Common substrates include concrete, ceramic tiling, plasterboard and surfaces pre-treated with Thistle Bond-it primer.

  • Base coat plaster for internal use only
  • Suitable for low suction and smooth backgrounds
  • Requires a Thistle finish plaster topcoat for final decoration
  • Creates a stable, inert surface for paint and wallpaper

Compatibility and surface preparation

Thistle Bonding Coat bonds effectively to concrete, plasterboard, ceramic tiles and pre-primed surfaces. Before application, ensure the background is clean, free from dust, loose material and contaminants. Low suction surfaces such as concrete and tiles may require treatment with Thistle Bond-it to improve adhesion and control suction rates. Always check that the substrate is structurally sound and stable.

  • Compatible with concrete, plasterboard and tiled surfaces
  • Use Thistle Bond-it on very smooth or non-porous backgrounds
  • Remove dust, loose paint and debris before fixing
  • Ensure substrate is dry and stable

Pack contents and preparation

Each bag contains 25 kg of pre-mixed gypsum plaster. The product requires only the addition of clean water to prepare for use; no additional additives or mixing agents are needed. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for water ratios to achieve the correct consistency for spreading and application. Use clean water and mixing equipment to maintain plaster quality.

  • 25 kg bag of pre-mixed plaster
  • Add clean water only; no other additives required
  • Mix thoroughly to achieve workable consistency
  • Use clean tools and containers to prevent contamination

Application and finishing

Thistle Bonding Coat is applied as a base coat to provide a uniform, stable surface. The fine mix and lightweight formulation allow for easy spreading, ruling and Darby work. Once set, apply a Thistle finish plaster topcoat to achieve the final smooth surface ready for decoration. Ensure adequate drying time between coats and follow Thistle product guidance for application thickness and drying conditions.

  • Apply as a base coat to prepared low suction surfaces
  • Use straightedge or Darby to level and smooth
  • Allow adequate drying time before topcoat application
  • Finish with Thistle finish plaster for final decoration
