How and where to use guide
EUROWALL + PIR INSULATION FULL FILL CAVITY TONGUE & GROOVE 1200 X 460MM X 90MM
Typical applications and installation
EUROWALL + PIR boards are installed as a full fill cavity system during new build or cavity wall construction. Position boards horizontally within the cavity, starting from the base and working upwards. The tongue and groove edges must interlock tightly between adjacent boards to maintain thermal performance and prevent air gaps. Ensure boards are fully supported by the inner leaf of the cavity wall and sit flush against the outer leaf. The boards should be installed before the inner blockwork or plasterboard is fixed, allowing the structure to support them securely. This full fill approach eliminates the need for cavity ties or additional fixings within the insulation itself, simplifying the installation process on site.
- Install during wall construction before inner leaf is completed
- Position boards horizontally with tongue and groove edges interlocking
- Ensure tight joints between all boards to prevent thermal bridging
- Boards must be fully supported by the inner leaf throughout installation
- Suitable for both new build timber-framed and masonry cavity wall construction
Cavity width and fitting
The 90mm thickness is designed for standard cavity widths commonly found in UK construction. Before ordering, confirm your cavity width matches this specification to ensure proper fit and thermal performance. The 1200mm length and 460mm width are standardised dimensions that align with typical stud and block spacing, allowing boards to fit between structural elements with minimal cutting. Measure your cavity dimensions carefully on site, as undersized or oversized cavities will compromise the insulation's effectiveness and may allow air movement around the boards.
- Verify cavity width is suitable for 90mm thickness before installation
- Board dimensions align with standard stud and block spacing
- Minimise cutting to preserve thermal performance and reduce waste
- Ensure cavity is clear of debris and obstructions before fitting boards
Thermal performance and air tightness
The PIR foam core provides consistent thermal resistance throughout the board thickness. Thermal performance depends entirely on tight installation with no gaps or voids between boards or at edges. The tongue and groove profile is critical to this performance—boards must be fully engaged so that grooves seat completely onto tongues. Any gaps, even small ones, create thermal bridges and reduce the overall U-value of the wall. Ensure boards are pushed firmly together during installation and that the inner leaf is built up tightly against them to prevent air movement within the cavity.
- Thermal resistance depends on tight, gap-free installation
- Tongue and groove edges must be fully engaged between boards
- No voids or air gaps should exist between boards or at cavity edges
- Inner leaf must be built up firmly against boards to prevent air leakage
On-site handling and storage
Store EUROWALL + PIR boards flat and dry on site before installation. Protect them from weather, moisture, and physical damage during transport and storage. Do not stand boards on edge or allow them to become wet, as this can compromise the foam core and edge profiles. Handle boards carefully to avoid crushing or denting the tongue and groove edges, which must remain in good condition to create effective joints. Keep boards away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures until installation. Once installed within the cavity, the boards are protected by the outer and inner leaves of the wall structure.
